The conversation on conscious motherhood continues. In this episode, you’ll meet AmyLee Westervelt, mother of 5, author of “The Colors Inside of Me,” and MLM executive turned spiritual coach.
You’ll hear AmyLee’s journey from a multiple six-figure career with an MLM company, to prioritizing her family and starting her spiritual coaching career. AmyLee shares how she applies her expertise in human design to parenting & homeschooling all five of her children, one of whom has a genetic disorder. She met her husband in 2011, who already had five children from a previous marriage. Initially, her plan was to stay home and raise the children, but after being stationed in Alaska, she became a bit of a recluse and started looking for social interaction. She stumbled upon a multi-level marketing company, which she became heavily involved with, prioritizing her business over her family. She eventually started feeling guilty about not spending enough time with her children, as she used to spend up to 10 hours in her office doing her MLM business. Despite providing her children with all their material needs, she felt she was not giving them the attention they needed.
AmyLee also discusses her approach to homeschooling, which is child-led and practical, and how human design plays a significant role in her family and how she adjusts her parenting style accordingly.
She is the author of a children's book, "The Colors Inside of Me," which is about a little panda who recognizes the colors within himself and his classmates. Each classmate tells him about a color they see in him and the quality that goes along with it. The book is a response to the Martin Luther King Jr. quote that children will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. The key message of the story is the importance of recognizing different cultures and traditions that exist inside individuals, which make them who they are.
As a mother of five, AmyLee discusses how she decides which priorities to focus on in her life as a mother, a business owner, and a spiritual coach.
She explains the importance of being playful and allowing oneself to be different, and believes that homogenization is an economic tool used to convince people that they want the same things, which ultimately reduces the cost of production. Differentiation is crucial, and it's up to individuals like us to be stewards of it. We must let our children know that they are allowed to be different and that it is okay not to find validation for their uniqueness in the outside world.
