Most birth businesses came to a screeching halt over the last few weeks. In this episode, I'll dive into some tips on how to navigate this transition that you're in.

First, know that you have permission to press pause on business for as long as you need. Your mental health is PRIORITY. And, there is no stigma with financial struggles right now - seek out government assistance (if it's an option), ask your lenders for deferral of payments, and know that much of the world is in a similar situation at the same time.

Then, it's time for some personal / business reflection. During this transition, allow yourself to surrender, just as you teach your pregnant clients that are waiting for birth. Accept the uncertainty that is.

What happens to your business during this period? My instinct is that, even with financial challenges, you will still help people. That's probably WHY you got into birth work, after all.

Here are some questions that may help you during this transition:

  • What are your other hobbies / interests?
  • What makes you different from the thousands and thousands of other doulas in the world?
  • What can you automate?
  • Think about the new life, after this passes. What happens with your business in the new life? What will you take into the new version, what will you leave behind, what will you automate?
